Post Vacation Slump

I know plenty of people who can come back from vacation and go about living their lives like they never even left. We are not those people. For whatever reason, we have a really hard time getting back into the swing of things after coming back from vacations.

Case in point: Orlando 2010. We spent a week in Orlando for Nathan's fourth birthday. After we got back, it too us months to finally unpack our suitcases and get our place back into a presentable state. And by then, it was time for us to start thinking about packing for Australia.

I thought this time around, for sure, it'd be easier for us to settle back into a routine because A. we had completely tidied up our house before we left so it'd be easier to unpack and return to livable conditions sooner, and B. it was school holidays so we technically didn't have to get back into any sort of rigid routine, but we did have a few scheduled events to attend.

Unfortunately, things didn't pan out the way I expected them to.

We got home and finally got the boys back to bed around 3:30am on Sunday morning. By the time we got up and ready in the morning, it was time to go out again - this time to a friend's place for a Christmas lunch. I made a huge mess of our master bedroom when I quickly unpacked our things, rummaging around for the Secret Santa gifts we picked up in Bali.

Then, our quick dash out the door came to a screeching halt when we managed to lock ourselves out of the house. About an hour and a half later, our friend came to pick the boys and me up while Andrew waited for the locksmith to come. I am pretty sure this is the highest paying profession in the world: $180 per second. PER SECOND. It literally took the guy one second to unlock our door for us. (Note to self: learn how to pick locks, become a locksmith.)

We managed to spend a nice, lazy afternoon out and by the time we left, we had to figure out dinner. Chinese takeaway seemed like the best solution but both boys were fast asleep by the time Andrew parked the car in our garage. Clearly, our schedules were still off.

I ruined our tidy home even more by opening the many parcels that arrived for me while on vacation, then going to bed.

This morning, the boys woke up at some unreasonable hour and I managed to convince Andrew to get them while I slept in a little longer. Our morning quickly passed by with nothing productive accomplished and soon our friend, Semele came over for one final visit. It's hard to believe her two years here are over and she's heading back to Canada. It's even harder to believe that that might be us in a couple years!

She came to hang out with us, play with the boys and watch Nathan swim before we shared one last dinner together before we meet again in Toronto. (See you soon, Sem!)

I'm hoping tomorrow we'll be back into a more normal routine and we'll be able to get the Christmas season started at the Tsoi household!

Does this post-vacation slump happen to anyone else, or is it just us?

Bali posts will start rolling out later today. Thank you for your patience!
