Mommy-Nathan Time at Lone Pine

After picking Nathan up from school today, we went straight to Lone Pine.

I had promised his classmates back in Toronto a postcard, only to find that I had already written our own address on the one at home so I needed to get a replacement quickly.

Since Andrew was able to be home with Caleb today, it was the perfect opportunity to go pick up that postcard and spend a little mommy-Nathan time. Just the two of us.

It's something I've been meaning to do.

We arrived just in time to watch them feed the lorikeets. They were squawking loudly and Nathan didn't particularly like it so we didn't stay for too long.

There were so many of them perched in the trees. There were little patches of rainbow everywhere. At one point, they all flew in a huge circle and swooped right by us as we stood on a bridge.

Then, we went looking for other animals we didn't get to see the last time we were there.

I think the cassowary is by far the weirdest creature I have ever seen in my entire life.

It's got this horn thing on its head. And let me tell you, this bird is massive!

Then, we saw this little devil (literally).

And then we searched for a bunch of animals from the book, Wombat Stew*.

Here's the fat wombat.

And here's Nathan, being just like the koala.

*My librarian read this book to us in elementary school and I've remembered it all these years. A couple months ago, I saw it at the post office and I had to get it for Nathan. He loves it and it's full of Australian animals.
