Finding Inspiration in Books

It's been a while since I've linked up with Gussy Sews for an inspiration post but when I saw that this week's prompt was books, I didn't want to miss it. Two awesome books popped into my head right away.

Ish by Peter H. Reynolds

I absolutely love this book on so many levels. It's a cute, easy to read children's book with fun illustrations and a great message. Remember the sentiment, "it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful"? That's what this book is all about.

I have to admit, I'm a bit of a perfectionist sometimes and this need for perfection is often gets in the way of my creative process. Sometimes, I find Nathan getting a little frustrated with himself if his own drawings aren't perfect. That's when Ish comes in handy.

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch with Jeffrey Zaslow

This one's for the older crowd, but also a quick and easy read. Based on Randy Pausch's lecture, it's a collection of life lessons and words of wisdom he wanted to pass along to his children.

This is a book about living life to the fullest, overcoming obstacles and making your wildest dreams come true. It was a great reminder to me to keep a positive attitude despite difficult circumstances.

Which books have inspired you lately?

  6. Both books sound wonderful! I have seen Ish but I have never read it before... I will be sure to check it out from the library soon. I also love books full of advice and little life lessons... I will be putting The Last Lecture on my wish list!

  7. I have never heard of Ish either, sounds like it could be a good book. Will have to track it down when I get to Scotland or back in the U.S. for our visit this winter. And I have always wanted to read "The Last Lecture", I have to imagine it would be VERY inspiring.
