Feeding A Wild Dolphin

After our turtle tour, we got the boys comfortable in the car and headed towards Tin Can Bay for the night.

The thing with driving to all these little towns is that a lot of the roads aren't lit. Having slept only a few hours the night before, I dozed off as Andrew drove. When I woke, we were in pitch black darkness again. After a little bit of clicking around on our GPS and crossing our fingers for a decent signal for our phones, we found our way to Tin Can Bay.

We stayed the night right by the water and I drifted in and out of sleep as the sun rose. I managed to snap a few pictures in my waking moments.

Then, Caleb woke up which meant there was no way I was getting any more sleep, so we went for a walk while the others continued snoozing.

Caleb loves being by the water and he loved watching all the boats go by.

Soon enough, it was time to meet the dolphins.

Interaction with the wild dolphins is controlled by the Queensland Government and is run by Barnacle Dolphin Centre. An hour before feeding time, you have the opportunity to stand in the water as the dolphins swim around. Some people are lucky enough to have the dolphins touch them.

It was a pretty overcast day when we went, so it was hard to see the dolphins in the water most of the time. I captured a couple shots when the sun peeked out from behind the clouds.

After about an hour of hanging out with the dolphins, it was time for feeding.

We each got a fish to feed the dolphins.

Nathan was up first, he was super excited and totally comfortable with being around the dolphin. Even with his shorts getting all wet.

Caleb was basically tummy-deep in water for this experience but he was brave and did it anyway. He did startle a little when the dolphin took the fish but he seemed to be okay with that.

Andrew was also very brave. Hahaha...

It was such a spectacular experience, and a beautiful way to start the day. We spent the rest of our time up north at Noosa Heads before heading home again.

It was such a hot day we had two rounds of milkshakes and ice cream. After a bit of shopping, we spent the rest of the day on the beach, in the water.
