Electives Round 1: ER

For the next four weeks, Andrew will be in the ER.

For the next four weeks, I'll be getting the boys ready in the morning, dropping Nathan off at school, coming home and doing housework while hanging out with the little muchacho, picking Nathan up from school and inevitably sitting there for another hour and a half, holding a squirmy Caleb while Nathan plays with his friends, coming home to make dinner and doing our evening routine.

It's pretty much the same routine I've had for the past 8 months, except that now when I text Andrew during the day, I can't expect a response. There won't be any sympathy when I'm complaining about how rough my day is, and no "aww so cute!" when I send pictures of Caleb.

And because he's expected to be at the hospital at least 6 hours a day, and the bus ride to the hospital is an hour each way, there won't be any surprise early finishes where he can come home to give me a bit of relief.

So for the next four weeks, please excuse me if my updates aren't as frequent.

Caleb's new favourite toy:

I put his feet up on the front the first time he sat on it so his feet wouldn't get rolled over while I pushed him around.

Now, every time I put him on it, he brings his feet up and waits for me to push him around. And of course, I have to say "Wheeeeeeee!" the whole time. It's part of the experience.

Nathan made a cake for Andrew to celebrate his first day at the hospital. He made the cross as a sign for the hospital.

Then, we had to wait for Andrew to come home from school. He was there late today for a talk about how to get back into Canada.

We had to wait a long, long time.

  1. I can empathize! My husband is working in Canada right now and is only home on weekends. It is pretty exhausting most nights!
It is not easy being the only one handling the home routines!
But I just try to tell myself that at least he is home on weekends, and that is getting me through.
It is still hard to be without that support!

  2. I completely understand! My husband was working out in the bush for 2 months. I was never so tired and haggard looking, I finally had to break down and ask my dad for help, so he came over 1 night a week so I could go to my girlfriends house for coffee and adult company/conversation. Thank god for that, it saved my sanity! Good luck, thinking of you!
