Mango Sago

Taking advantage of fresh tropical fruit, and adding another Chinese dessert to my repertoire.

I found this recipe from My Kitchen Snippets.

Ingredients:
2 sweet mangoes
sago pearls (I cooked this according to directions from the taro dessert)
125ml evaporated milk
200 ml mango juice
50 ml water
2-3 tbsp sugar

Directions:
1. Cook sago (tapioca pearls) according to directions found here.
2. Peel and cut mango into cubes. Keep some mango for garnish if you like.
3. Blended the rest of the mango, sugar with the 50 ml of water until smooth.
4. In a bowl, mix the blended mango, cubed mango, mango juice and milk. Stir well. Add in the sago pearls and stir until well combined.
5. Chill before serving.

Notes:
I'm not sure how much sago I used because I made enough for this dessert as well as the taro version.
At step 3, I omitted the sugar and water (which I had dissolved to make a syrup) because after taking some taste tests, we found the mangoes were sweet enough without extra sugar.
I ended up spooning sago into the dish, topping it with mango mixture and stirring it instead of mixing it in a bowl - one less thing to wash.

  1. Do you think this would taste good with another fruit? I'm allergic to mangoes, but this seems like a fun dessert.
