Around Here

Andrew has been working ED shifts for a month now, and it's a difficult schedule to get used to. On the one hand, we appreciate the days when he's home, the boys love when he picks them up after school and I can get work done at night without feeling guilty for not spending time with him. But on the other hand, we also struggle with his unpredictable schedule, the lack of sleep and having one car which makes his commute 3 hours each day, and leaves him stranded if he misses the last bus on his late nights. So far though, we have adapted and we both agree ED was a good way for him to start. And he managed to swap shifts with someone yesterday to spend the day with me.

Yesterday, I turned 29 and let's just say the day Andrew planned for us involved me making a lot of decisions and finding out what those decisions lead to, choose-your-own-adventure style. Probably a good foreshadow of what this year is going to be like. It was a thoughtful, eventful day. But Andrew reminded me that over the next few years, there will be birthdays we won't be able to spend together so I'm really cherishing the time we had this year.

Enjoy the time you have with your people now, and have a good weekend!
